The difference between the versions is the on-screen text language.

John had me test a mutlicart proto on my G7400 system. I should post some photos of the proto these days.

The SELECT GAME screen of the original version didn't work on a G7400, so I've fixed that.

Helicopter/Buzzword - what is this? (listed as modified)

That's a combination I've made of Helicopter Rescue and Buzzword, since both of these games have not been released in Europe.

Looney Baloon (original X br) = diferent maze (I?m not sure if it?s the same to unreleased version)
Wall St. (original X br) = language
Super Bee (original X br) = openning screen
Air Battle (original X br) = different graphics, (original looks better)
Frooger (original X br) = different graphics and gameplay
Popeye (original X br) = different score sistem and gameplay.

I was actually wondering the same thing ... did he include all the homebrew games with Rene's and Ted's permission ?? (I noticed that KTAA is not included, but I guess thats for "technical limitations" it beeing a 12 K game ...)

I agree with Rafael. Well, he doesn't earn any money with that, but spends a lot of work on it to make these games or demos playable on a real system and not on the emulator.

I actually agree with you for once ;:) John is a great guy and a fine author of many games for the Vectrex / Colecovision / & the VP but he should have at least asked Packrat (or the authors of the games) if he could put them on his new cart. Perhaps he has a profit split deal with Packrat  ???

But in a twisted way, most of us who publish games do the same. Has anyone ever asked permission to the authors of the original games, we are now publishing? Like spiderman, tutankham, robot city and others?
Think the programmer of martian thread was asked permission, but i'm not sure on that.

Most of those programmers don't own the rights of these games, but companies like Philips do.

The difference is that those games are no longer / have never been on sale (which does not make it right in a juristical sense but somehow in an ethical :-) ) while the homebrew games are still sold and some people who want to play the games on the original system will by the multicart INSTEAD of the original cart ...

Title: Re: New multi-cart 233 in 1

Hah, this thread makes me laugh, some of the GSW games are so steeped in mystery that we dont know who programmed what or even where the programmers are so how can we ask permission!! I have no idea who programmed the Crazy Horses game for example.

I agree but I also think it might HELP sell homebrew/prototype carts.  Some of us would rather play the real thing, not emulators, to see if we like games before buying them.  I typically won't buy a game unless:
A). I have played it before, on a real system, and like it.
B). I have played other games by the person(s) releasing the game (Dieter for one) and appreciate the first class work they put into the box and instructions.

Some games are difficult to play on an emulator but they are great on a real system.  Having the game on a multi-cart helps.

Title: Re: New multi-cart 233 in 1
Post by: manopac on October 29, 2009, 06:04:43 PM
here's a great article on "try before you buy" pirated games ... (and I am NOT saying that you are doing that RickO2, its just something which your comment reminded me off)  - apparently not one person who "tries" the full version of a game on the iPhone buys it ... besides playing it a lot ...

http://smellslikedonkey.com/wordpress/?page_id=274

The whole "I want to try a game/CD/movie/food/car at home before I buy it" doesn't really work in the real world ... it might in the Odyssey2 world, but I still doubt it - as I said, people on here buy the quality releases anyway, but its the people who are NOT here and active in the community who wouldn't ...

I don't get any money for Pong and Calculator carts sold by Packrat anyway.

Martian Threat for example was already available on the multicart before Dieter released it, and Dieter still has sold a lot of copies of it.

Indepently anything you deserve a free copy by every release. 90% of the thing happen here is because of you.

Not really. He asked me if I wanted money for every Pong and Calculator cart he sold, but I didn't. I've written those games because I wanted to write them, not to make money. I never intended to release them, but Packrat was interested in it. I have no idea how many copies he has sold.

As far as the VP forums, I am aware of the discussion. The same person
who sent me most of the Rom images I added told me about it.

It probably would have been proper to ask permission and any author
who wants their titles removed just has to ask. I'd be happy to
send them a free multicart instead, but that's their own decision.
I still have a couple of (really crappy) images that I did not
use for lack of space.

So there you have it!

Naturally, I think everyone who made Roms available on the internet was concious about a possibility someone could use it, how I said I?m happy it?s in good hands and I also happy we?re back to 1978  :D. Anyway I ever think ask for permition is ever a good thing to do in any situation. Since he decides use some demos I made I would, for example prefer he was used the updated version of PacMan, with all 46(48) dots or even use Star Wars instead River Raid (since I consider RR is not ready for demo), but it?s just details. Overall is time to celebrate the things are happening.

Got my two yesterday as well. Haven't tried them yet, but the new box is cool (VHS style). The cart has a new 3-position switch on it too, so as to allow more than 128 games (that is the max with 7 switches on the first set microswitches - 8th switch for voice). 2nd 3-position switch picks from 2K, 4K, or 8K games.

Yes, John has really used every available byte of the 1MB Eprom chip.

(Btw.: the cart has 10 microswitches besides the 3-position switch.)

Because the carts of these games have extra bank-switch hardware. (They are 16k games.)

Why these games needs 16k, is it because variety of scenes? How many K?s was used for the plus gfx?

These games need 16k because they don't have one single static Plus graphics background, but several Plus graphics backgrounds with moving Plus graphics foreground and background objects. Since these games run on Plus consoles only, the data for the Plus graphics is not separated from the game anymore, but is an integrated part of the game.

Problem is that my copy of the 233-in-1 multicart doesn't work on my G7400. It does work on my N60 and my G7000 with Voice module.

DYNASTY G7400 Plus Version doesn't work perfectly, look likes NTSC version runs on a PAL machine ?!

This is an old version, which probably hadn't been tested on a real Videopac console. Acrobats+ is an old version too.

Hi!
Is someone will release copies of a correct version of DYNASTY+ (15+) in the future? I'm very interested.

can you send the updated ones to John ? he is still preparing multicarts and could include working versions then ... (that is presuming you have working versions :-) )

That would be nice. Plus it would make the early 233 multi-carts rarer (if the cart gets updated). Wonder how you'd tell the difference. This could make the cart listing a bit more complicated...  :-\

it already got a new version ... I sent John updated binaries of my videopac-tools which are on the cart and listed as "not working" on the Ody2, now they are and are included in the new versions of the carts ...
