Title: New release: C7060 Game Selector
Post by: Rene_G7400 on December 08, 2012, 12:05:27 AM
Update:
The first, second and third edition of the C7060 are sold out (3x 50 carts).
I have no plans for a next edition, because it will be replaced by the C7051.

New release: C7060 Game Selector

- contains more than 200 games
- contains all Philips Videopac and Magnavox Odyssey2 games, and a lot of prototypes and homebrews
- contains several games that haven't been available before on a multicart or the internet
- on-screen game menu
- works on all Videopac, Jopac and Odyssey2 consoles
- works with the Voice
- automatic PAL/NTSC selection for some games
- search function
- only new PCBs, new Eproms and new components have been used.

This is what you get:

Some highlights:

- Bastion

- Sherlock Holmes
- Linguaduc
- Syracuse+
- Des Chiffres et des Lettres
- Trans American Rally (Videopac 60)
- Helicopter Rescue+ (Videopac 59)
- Kill the Attacking Aliens
- several plus-enhanced games

This is the complete list of the game menu:

The price for the cartridge with manual is 44 Euro (shipping costs not included).
Payment can be done by PayPal or (international) bank transfer.

Please send me a PM or e-mail if you would like to buy a copy of this cart.

Shipping costs:

The Netherlands:
- letter: 3.56 Euro
- with Track & Trace: 7.75 Euro

Europe:
- letter: 6.25 Euro

Outside Europe:
- letter: 6.25 Euro

____________________________________________________________

Several games on this cartridge contain both Plus graphics and Voice sounds.
A Voice module normally doesn't fit on a G7400 console, but Bas has made a solution for that: the Voice+ module.
When bought together with the multicart it costs 11 Euro (no extra shipping costs), a loose Voice+ module costs 15 Euro (+ shipping costs). The Voice+ is currently sold out, but there will be a next edition.

This is what you get:

This is how it looks on a G7400:

This is how the parts are connected to the Voice module:

Very well done Rene. Great list of games too - including a few protos and Trans American Rally - guessing the extra circuitry was needed for that and others.

Amazed at the price too, considering all that is involved. But not complaining about it - just think it is cool.

Will be getting one of these for sure!  8)

One question of interest. THe Voice+ module, is this only being sold with the 7060? And were only a certain amount made? (Just adding this to the homebrew list - even though it is hardware related.

No , it can be bought loose (for a higher price, see message 1).
Only 20 copies have been made of it.

Almost forgot to mention, love that cover art!!!! Mr. Robbert has some great talent in that area. :)

And Bas is good at doing what looks like metal work (those are metal supports - right? - sure look like it).

I cannot see any of the photos. Is that just me?

Edit: Ok, it's probably just me. I remember that I had that problem some months back when Rene had a file for download for me and I couldn't access http://home.kpn.nl. Now it's the same. I also couldn't see the photos on my mobile phone when it was connected via WLAN. But when I turned WLAN off and my mobile phone was connected to the internet via 3G, I could see the photos. So it seems for some reason I cannot access kpn.nl via my cable provider. Never.

The module looks really nice René!

I was a little reluctant to bring out my multicart because of the amount of work you already had put in yours.
Maybe next year, too much stuff on my hands at the moment.

I'd still buy a multicart that supports SD, the Voice and Basic emulation any day - just name your price ;-)

@René: I am really curious though - how did you implement the reset of the cartridge by holding down the reset button for a few secs ? Processor reset is not available on the cartridge port, is it?

That was an idea of Gert: a monoflop ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monoflop#Monostable_multivibrator_circuit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monoflop#Monostable_multivibrator_circuit) ) is connected to the PSEN line (output enable of the Eprom). As long as the Eprom receives read pulses the monoflop is retriggered, but when you hold the reset button down there are no pulses anymore, so after 1.2 seconds the monoflop switches to its other state, thereby resetting the circuits of the multicart.

ah! checking the PSEN line for pulses :-) that is clever ...

Hello,
I received my C7060 Game Selector and Voice+ yesterday.
It's incredible. Great work.
I especially like the fact that you can hold Reset to go back to the menu, pretty smart, René.
Also, I can finally use my Voice module on the G7400 now : )
Feels like Christmas.

Hi, I'm not sure if my pm went through.  If you still have any available, I'd like to buy the C7060, but I'm also EXTREMELY interested in purchasing a Voice+.  I hope that more will be made available in the future.  Also will this allow Voice use on the Jopac?

Thanks,
       Matt

The 2 metal parts of the Voice+ doesn't fit on the Jopac. One metal part will be on the power button of the Jopac. Maybe you'll build yourself 2 metal parts for your Jopac..

Mine arrived - Yeah. Crunched manual though - Boo (considering how well it was packaged, I'm amazed that the postal system damage the manual as well as they did). Oh well, I'll live. Just glad I got the 7060. Now to have some fun with it over the weekend.

There will be a second run of the C7060 (50 copies) and Voice+ (25 copies).
They will be exactly the same as the first run.
If you are interested in buying a copy and if your name is not on my list yet, please send me a PM or email.

Title: Re: New release: C7060 Game Selector
Post by: Rene_G7400 on March 13, 2013, 09:28:36 AM

Update: at the moment I'm still waiting for the new PCBs to arrive. (I've ordered them on February 6.) When I've received them I need to solder the electronic components on them, so the new carts won't be ready before April.

The second edition will consist of 50 carts. There are already 50 names on my list, so if you're interested in buying a copy of the C7060 and your name is not on my list yet, I will put it on a new list. When there are enough names on the new list I might make a third edition.

Agree with that,it proves that if you have a great product thats well priced and produced to high quality it will sell even if the Videopac/Odyssey2 market is smaller than other markets.Keep up the great work Rene.  :)

I'm unhappy that I missed out on the C7050 while I was away from the scene last year, that looks like a great piece of kit as well.
I don't suppose that you will change your mind on making any more Rene,I would love to have one to test the new programs that are being wrote now.The homebrew market has really taken off over the last 2 years.

The problem with the C7050 is that not many people are interested in it, and that it would be very expensive to make in low quantities.

Depending on your hardware skills you could also build Soerens RamCart:

http://soeren.informationstheater.de/g7000/g7000ram.html

It works for prototyping equally well, only problem is: you always need to upload you program first as it is not retained without power. (Unless you add a small battery to the SRAM chip)
In the past I built one with an old 486 SRAM cache chip.

The original price of the C7050 was 49.60 Euro. If you would be prepared to pay more for it, that might raise the chance of making a second edition.

I was completely surprised that so few people actually bought this.

Come on! Every test ever spit out by Rafael or Chris you will be able to play on the actual machine.
And who knows what else the future will bring.

Order this thing!

I have it, I love it!

P.s. also comes with amazing artwork on the manual!

Did the 25 Voice+ units get done too (just wondering, for the 'Release' list). Thanks.

Yes, they have been made too.

Is there a list somewhere of what games on this cart have Voice compatibility?

I found this list:
Attack of the Timelord!
K.C.'s Krazy Chase!
Killer Bees!
Nimble Numbers Ned
P.T. Barnum's Acrobats!
Sid the Spellbinder
Smithereens!
Turtles
Type & Tell

But am not sure if there are any others, or just those 9 games.

Those are the only released O2 games with voice.

I just wondered if any of the Unreleased, Alternate, Homebrews or Mod's/Hacks also were made to support the Voice.

It looks like Jungle Girl may also support the Voice:

At work, so I can't go to certain sites, but I know Jungle Girl does use the Voice. Others, I would have to check at home, or if others know. Mr. Roboto uses the Voice too. And as pointed out, Route 66 does for sure.

It a programmers own choice to give the code free or not. The c7060 is great cartridge, but it's on the edge of what can and can't be legal.
My guess is that if you could ask the programmers of all the games, the old ones, it could be possible that more would like to get they're game removed.
For most of the current programmers it's a hobby, programming. But for others it's a way to earn money maybe to pay bills, or be able to collect games.
So why should you then just give up you're hard work, maybe if there is so much demand a second release is planed, or maybe one is going to release a compilation cart.
If a programmer is oke to get his work released on a all in one cart that's nice, if he doesn't want it thats oke to.
A few years ago there wasn't a lot of new games that got released, be happy that there's a choice and that programmers are willing to write games for our beloved console.
So don't be mad on them if they just want to control the way they're games are released.

First off, I said sad, not mad. And yes, your points are valid, and I don't have an issue with them. As for a 2nd release, I don't think Revival will ever do that - IMHO.
Just thought the first Revival game on this cart would have been kind of nice, plus a bit of publicity on a multi-cart would be cool. This is just my opinion though. Revival does what it does, and I understand that (and for the most part, I like Martijn's games).

On my own turf, Packrat games still sell (will again, once I'm fully up again), even with this and John's multi-cart. And I don't see 'more' programmers not wanting there game here (as I have been in contact with some - they are cool with it). Each to their own.
As for homebrew games, for many, this is the only way to get games that are out of print (and are not getting another release). I think that is a good thing.
And there are no instructions here, so it doesn't kill the collectibility of the original releases.

In simpler terms, I respect your reply. But my original post was just a comment, not an insult (and if you read this Martijn, which I would guess you would, this is the simple truth with me and my opinion).

I could go on here, but I don't want to argue this. You have your opinion, I have mine. Leave it at that.
Peace!

I've asked all writers of homebrew games for their permission to put their games on this cart:
- John Dondzila: Amok
- Soeren Gust: KTAA and demo programs
- Ted (Foolery) Szczypiorski: Planet Lander, Mr. Roboto, Puzzle Piece Panic
- Martijn: Munchkin+
- Chris: Ants/Fatso, Gosub
- David: Jungle Girl
- Rafael: Route66, Sea Rescue, Hot Love, Minefield/Flying Saucer and Plus versions
- Mark: Spritebuilder, Soundfinder, Grideditor

They all gave me permission to put their games on this cart.
I haven't asked Philips for permission, I think they don't care (or don't know what I'm talking about).

At least 20 people would have to be interested in the Voice+ to make a new batch. Making one single Voice+ adapter would cost approximately 35 Euro.

Hmm, let me think about that.

I am not going to make another 100 cardboard boxes, that was really really a lot of work. But a second edition of Tutankham, prepared to bet put in a plastic plus box would be possible and would come close visually.

Also a second edition of Flash Point would be possible, without the famous wodden joystick coupler though  :P

I think, that this time not only VP/O2 collectors want to have the C7060. Also everybody who have one of this system, and is a gamer, want to have one.

In my opinion is the C7060 the best promotion for our systems. All the good games in one very professional made cartridge. And all this so user-friendly with on-screen game menu.

I didn't have enough characters to add the game numbers in the menu, but the games are in the correct numerical order, so page 1 has Videopac A and 1 to 6, page 2 Videopac 7 to 14, and so on.

Yes, looks cool. What is the secret of your C7440?

What do you do with it  ???

Was not possible to insert both menus in a cart and call it according the machine you´re using?

I've done that for the C7440, but since the control program of the C7060 is more complex I didn't have enough ROM space for two menus.

I've made the C7440 before I made the C7060. It's a "Game Collection Module", so kind of a multicart, but the electronics didn't fit inside a cartridge. It has two large Eproms and 8 other ICs.

I'm not sure what you would get if you would buy this, but I think it won't be a good idea to try it!

Yes, but still I'm surprised. Copying the Eprom is not difficult if you've got the right equipment, but copying the hardware (see pic in first post) won't be that easy. And I'm missing the red LED in the picture of the cart.

Maybe someone is doing the exact same thing in another part of the world, the idea itself is, to me a logical step to take for retro consoles...
They also have Atari and other console game selectors.

Ofcourse the "original" C7060 is a much better version, made in Holland haha  :D

The original C7060 is cheaper than his copy.

Hi René

I have a question about the C7060. Till now, I found two little cosmetic changes in your games instead of the real cartridges. I hope, I am right.

Videopac 52 Killer Bees:

I miss the black colour with the honeycomb from the game screen at my G7400/Jopac in the SELECT GAME screen. Did you change the colours, that no honeycomb appears  ???

Videopac 51 Terrahawks

I miss here when Zelda appears, with the colourful beams, at the upper side of the screen, the legs of our Videopacman. In the eighties, when I get this game, I found it very strange that I can see the legs of the Videopacman in Zeldas beams. But why can you change this and the Philips programmer not  ???

I hope, I could explain right with my bad english, what I mean. Did you change this or am I wrong  ???

Title: Re: New release: C7060 Game Selector
Post by: Rene_G7400 on February 16, 2014, 05:52:30 PM
Yes, I've changed both games, because I considered these issues to be bugs.

For Killer Bees they used the Odyssey2 version, but that one didn't have Plus graphics. The color black is chosen to be the transparent color, so in the intro you see the Plus graphics background instead of the black stripes. I've also changed the timing, so it's now a perfect triangle just like on NTSC consoles.

The program in the ROM of the 8048 contains a bug: characters on line 0 are not converted correctly. For NTSC consoles that's no problem, because line 0 is not visible. To fix this issue for Terrahawks I've copied a part of the ROM to the game and corrected the bug there.

Title: Re: New release: C7060 Game Selector
Post by: TomBeck on February 16, 2014, 08:10:51 PM
Thanks for the explanation René !

You answered the question since my childhood: Why has Terrahawks this graphic bug.

So you finished the work from Philips. Thank you very much. Both changes makes thats now look perfectly.

So our Odyssey users doesn`t understand what I mean with Terrahawks. They didn`t see the legs from our videopacman in Attack of the Timelord. I saw so often at youtube.com films from Terrahawks and doesn`t see the legs from the videopacman at Zelda. So this were films from the US (Attack of the Timelord). I thought my G7400 was defect. But also my Jopac had this. Now I know why.

Again, thanks for the changes. You are now official my wizard of Videopac.

The C7051 is a combination of the C7050 and the C7060. You will be able to put 63 games on it yourself. I will make it easier to use than the C7050.

Exactly!

(The flashrom chip is 512k, each game occupies 8k, 64 x 8k = 512k.)

It will come to you empty and you can choose which games you put on it.The only thing that will be on the cart when you receive the cart will be the program that runs the cart.

Rene, I assume that we can put any .bin file on the cart as long as the program is 8k or under.?

So that will be the files the programmers post on this forum and what is in the zip file on your website?

What games will we not be able to put on the cart (i.e. over 8k)?

I've put the pictures and details in one place

From the C7050 thread (http://videopac.nl/forum/index.php?topic=1639.msg15339#msg15339). What the C7050 consisted of.

Besides the complete cartridge with Videopac label, a manual, a special cable, an upload tool and an old plastic Videopac box are included.

Is this going to have a similar input as the 7050 (headphone like jack and such)? Just curious.

No, I will use a different plug, like the ones used for power adapters.
(A small version of this one.)

Rene has also stated in the shoutbox that he will supply an usb to serial adapter to these who need it.

Start Menu of C7051

Yes, those are the .bin files that you need for this cart. When I start selling copies of this cart I will send the .bin files in an email to the buyers.

Games larger than 8k can not be used: KTAA, Videopac 59 and Videopac 60. For Videopac 58 only the version without Plus graphics can be used (prototype).
For Videopac 31, 40 and 55 only the modified versions can be used, but these look and play exactly the same as the originals (including the Plus graphics for Videopac 55).

Thanks for answering the other questions.  :)

Before you can transfer games to the C7051 cart you'll need this:
- the .bin files of the Videopac/Odyssey2 games. These will be send by email.
- a program on your computer to transfer the games. This will be send by email.
- a cable to connect your computer to the C7051 cart. This will be send together with the cart. (optionally with USB adapter)

This is how to send the games from your computer to the C7051 cart:
- put the C7051 cart in a Videopac/Odyssey2 console and connect the console to a TV
- connect the C7051 cart to your computer
- turn on the power
- with the help of the on-screen menu of the C7051 the transfer can be prepared
- with the program on your computer you can select a .bin file and start the transfer of the game to the C7051 cart

This sounds fantastic!  Really, it's the ultimate cart because new games can be added for the future. Thank you for the explanation on everything.

At work, we have many DB9 serial devices but no modern computers with COM ports, so we use the USB adapters with success in transferring data.

Don't forget for Mac folks, that Ted has an O2Sender program that should work with this (I'm sure he'd share it, if you didn't ask him already). I've used his wonderful program for years with the 7050 and the older RAMCARt (7030 if I remember).

Curious if the 7051 will work with the Voice? (the 7050 doesn't always work well with some O2 units, as I have found out - still haven't figure that one out yet).

The current C7051 testcircuit does work with the Odyssey2 console with Voice unit, so I suppose the C7051 cart will work with the Voice too.

This game has a special console-detection function. It will only show the Plus graphics when the game runs on an Odyssey3 console, not on a G7400. The Plus graphics of this proto are the same as the Plus graphics of Videopac 52+.

But I really didn`t knew, that there is a game thats so particular to ignore the european Videopac/Jopac consoles to show his plus gfx only at O3.

Hi René

Sorry to ask again questions about your C7060, but I really love this cartridge, so I spend a lot of time with it.

What is the difference in Satellite Attack from Videopac 34+ and the 34+ in Mod´s?

Do you make a cosmetic change in Videopac 38+, because in the original game from Martijn was in the left bottom side a little graphic bug?

Why can I see in the PickAxePete Odyssey3 version the "Quel Jeu?" from my Jopac under the highscore counter?

Sorry to ask again questions about your C7060, but I really love this cartridge, so I spend a lot of time with it.

I'm glad that you are trying every game of the C7060, I wonder how many people do that.  ;D

What is the difference in Satellite Attack from Videopac 34+ and the 34+ in Mod´s?

In the modded version there are no dark grey enemies. These would be invisible on a G7400, so now there are no more invisible enemies.

Do you make a cosmetic change in Videopac 38+, because in the original game from Martijn was in the left bottom side a little graphic bug?

Yes, I've corrected this bug. It was present because Martijn didn't test the game on a real console.

Why can I see in the PickAxePete Odyssey3 version the "Quel Jeu?" from my Jopac under the highscore counter?

On the Odyssey3 the Plus graphics have only 21 rows instead of 24 rows on the G7400 (and Jopac). So when the Plus graphics of the game are loaded, only the upper 21 rows are updated, so the last three rows (lines) of the SELECT GAME (QUEL JEU?) screen aren't changed.
