Title: New forum options...
Post by: Janzl on April 08, 2008, 11:36:45 PM
Hi everybody,

A couple of new options have been added to the forum:

- Add bookmark:
  • This mod simply adds a AddThis social bookmark widget to each thread. AddThis supports currently 36 different social bookmarking services. And a thread can be easily added to your own bookmarks.

- Save PM as HTML
  • Save a PM as a html file on your harddisk, no need to login everytime you need to read it. This way you can store important messages locally.

- odyBay
  • Our own personal eBay, members can put an advert online and other members can bid. Starting price, shipping costs and duration of auction included. You can, of course also include images. If responses are good other options (like buy it now) can be added. Yes ladies and gentlemen a totally free auction site  8)
  • Go to the odyBay board and hit the "new SMFBuy item" button to place your add!
  • This is an experiment, suggestions are welcome, as always.

Hope you can all appreciate these new forum features!

Have fun!

Janzl

Aye? What does this mean to us old folk that never bothered with social networking?

Does this run maarkplats style or ebay style? In other words, does an end date have to be set?

Its eBay style, there is a maximum of 21 days to it. But you can choose your own duration.

Ok well MJB got me to drag a whole load of videopacs up to the house last weekend for a photo session (thats about 50% complete, website updates imminent...), and out of that there will be a substantial Radiola listing for odyBay possibly as early as this coming weekend, and possibly a few other bits.

Is there an anonymous bidding option?

Well, that would great! A nice way to test odyBay!

Please note, guests are not able to see odyBay. I am not sure if everyone would appreciate if guest can see this.
On the other hand, it could raise prices if guest would come in and bit.

Maybe other members have an opinion on this. Let me know. I could also start a poll on this.

No there is no anonymous bidding option at the moment.

No there is no anonymous bidding option at the moment.

I think you need that in such a small forum, if you want it to be a viable choice to 'other' online auction sites.

I see your point. I'll look into it, the option is not available at the moment.

Everybody who reads this:

Please place a bid on the test auction in odyBay and let me know if you get any errors.

Thanx!

Janzl

hmmm... well it said the current bid was 110, and next bid had to be a minimum of 111, so I put 110.01 and it want a bit funny  :)

So then I put 111, this works but it does not seem possible to see I am the highest bidder or any bidding history?

apparantly there is no bidding history but you can see you are the highest bidder. Its just below the shipping costs.

No worries George, just keep bidding  ;D

There is also an upgrade for this auction-feature. It has the following extra options (quick copy/paste):

  • Insert and manage Auction, BuyItNow and BuyItNow + BestOffer
  • Show more detailed information on listing, including image and public data on the seller
  • Feedback system with comments
  • New manage features
  • Use ad manage decimal number
  • Send PM to seller when BuyItNow expired and send PM (and email if setting) to seller and buyer when Auction expired.
  • WARNING: this MOD not use cron job for check when listing expired. Cron job are not avalailable in all server. I not assicure that PM arrire to seller and buyer at exatcly time of listing expired
  • Show listing and feedback in profile
  • Send a PM (and email is setting) when user place a bid higher then you
  • View all open listings in a page

I am thinking of installing that also. But first I would like to see how people respond to the current version.

Still no anonymous bidding ??? To be honest, not sure I would use it without anonymous bidding in this forum  :-\

Don't get me wrong, I've never been into videopac collecting for a profit! I cant see more than one bid on a forum this small, before someone would not want to bid against someone else. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I see what you mean George.

I guess people shouldn't take the bidding personally but I can imagine that people easally hesitate to overbid because we all know each other.

Well, I'm just gonna see how it all works out and if its a flop I'll just remove it. The whole idea seemed very much fun to me but of course it could turn out to be not as I expected.

We'll see, I'm off to bed now!
