Title: KC Munchkin
Post by: Janzl on November 24, 2008, 09:23:06 PM
Well... it was a lot of work and it took me a couple of months to complete it... but here it is:

KC Munckin!
current version: 1.21 (check in lower left corner of the game's opening screen)

I wasn't sure if I was going to pull this one off but i did it! :)

Off course I made some variations on the real game:

  • You have three lifes instead of one
  • Because this game is meant for the forum arcade, with its highscorelist, I decided that it was not possible to choose your own maze. Instead, you cycle through the 4 standard mazes of the game.
  • Something else... which you will see while playing the game.

Furthermore there are some slight differences with the real game... I hope no?ne will notice but they are there. It is simply because Flash works differently than the real machine.

I hope you guys all enjoy the game!

Let me know what you think!

Janzl

Ps I removed Duckhunt from the forum arcade because nobody was playing it anymore. Also the only way to break the highscore was by just playing it for hours on end. Not really a challenge there...

Great job, Janzl!
Congratulations, sure it has been a hard job programming it!

Great Janzl, the gameplay is excellent like the other versions you made. Just reporting a bug, I was in the level 4 and the rotate center stop, so I was a monsters prisioner :'(.
:D

That has happened to me but hitting the arrow key made it move again.  On one occassion at the beginning of the bonus round a ghost went through a line (in the rotating box) to get me.  I REALLY enjoy playing this game on the forum arcade!  Great Job!

Thanks Rick! Yes I know the rotating door mechanism has some issues. The problem is if you program the game yourself you tend to overlook certain issues. Everytime you test you test the last alterations or new behaviors you have programmed. So I really need beta-testers. You are those testers but it can only be tested once it is released to the forum arcade haha.

I am working on the rotation-stop right now. Seems I have complicated my script way to much on this part and am trying a lot simpler method. The more simpler the better is what most often is the case. I'll keep you guys posted :)

Well I think I have solved the "stuck door" problem. If you guys would like to test I will be very thankfull. Its important that you empty your cache first otherwise you will still be playing the "old" version.

Sorry Janzl but it still isn't fixed.  I just lost two guys due to the center stopping instead of rotating.  :'(

Hmmm...
Was it in the same maze (level4)?

And when you play munchkin can you see a very small number (should be 1.17) in the lower left corner of the title screen?

If the number is not there it means you have to clear your browser cache. If that doesn't help you should try to remove your temporary internet files.

Let me know if this works.

There still is a nasty bug in the game.
Sometimes after you finish the bonuslevel the ghosts somehow dissappear and then immediately kill of the Munchkin in the next level. I am going to fix this tonight.

Beware that flash files don't refresh easaly. Check the version number in the lower left corner of the opening screen to see if your browser has refreshed properly. Otherwise you may be playing a non-updated version with bugs in it. The current version number will always be visible in the first post of this topic.

If you have refreshing problems try CTRL-refresh with your browser and if that doesn't help try to remove your temporary internet-files.

Hope this helps! :)

The current version is now 1.21

After lots of thinking I decided to remove the level with the central rotating door.

Because:

  • I couldn't get the blue ghost bug fixed. It somehow went right through the top of the door and immediately killed your Munchkin
  • I thought this level was depending to much on luck, as you sometimes had to stay in the door to get to another part of the screen. If a ghost decided to run into the door there was no way out for you.

This change makes the game easier of course but it also speeds it up nicely and makes it less frustrating.

I hope you guys like the change and if most people want to have the level back, it will be placed back (including the blue ghost bug).

Munch 'em!

did any of you guys hear that rumor about the hanging munchkin in the background of The Wizard Of Oz?

Apparantly,  one of the little people hanged himself on set in the background of a large complicated scene which they were unable to film again so they left it in.  You can see it in the background of a couple of scenes apparantely.

Creepy

Anyone know more or seen this?

 :D

Yes that is a rumor and apparantly it is false.

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r89z_-1by6U

If you look close you can see something swing in the background. People claim it is a munchkin commiting suicide.

You figure it out...  ;)

Must be my older eyes.... I didn't see anything in the background?

I have heard of this one before.  It's not true.  It looks like a prop or stage hand moving in the background.

back to the game... just played it... got a score of 1683, and it didn't register it. Just when back to the main K.C. page!?  What's up?  ???

Strange.  I just did a quick test run and it recorded my score.

I did a quick test this morning and everything went well. I haven't got a clue what went wrong Ozyr, maybe it's just a rare glitch...
