of course, the O2/VP would not look as good, and I don't know if it would really work with the car jumping - if comes closer and back down again -  something that would be rather hard to do I would think.
I didn't play Route 66! much yet, but there seems to be two sprites for enemy cars, one sprite for the user car and maybe the other sprite is the bullet. If that's correct, a jumping car could be accomplished by double the user car's sprite size (and playing with the sprite shape a bit to make this process more natural). So as long as there's still a bit of CPU per frame, RAM and cart storage left, it might be somewhat simple. That's only a subset of Bump n' Jump's features, though.

I too thought of Bump n' Jump when I saw the screenshots. Cheesy

Not exactly. All 4 cars consist of a sprite and a character.
