I just purchased a system.  Powered up, got picture but no sound.  Tested system on two older televisions.  Next I eliminated the tv/video box by purchasing a rca-to-coax adapter.  The picture quality is fantastic, but still no audio.  Has anyone experienced this problem?  Any help would be appreciated.

I suppose I may have set myself up for the question 'Did you turn up the volume on the tv?'.  I did.  From what I can tell, the video and audio both come from  the same Intel 8244.  Just wondering if anyone has had a problem with only the audio.

Thanks again.

If you turn up the volume on the TV, do you hear any static/noise, or only complete silence?

I've definitely got static noise if I turn up the volume on the tv.

Also, any button that I press on the keyboard will start a game.  I'm not sure if that's normal, or if you need to press a specific numeric key (as I remember) to start a game.

Again, any ideas are appreciated.

I think it's a problem with the RF modulator (the metal box inside the console).

Thanks for the info.  I guessing it's an internal problem.  I've been told by one repair shop (over the phone--he said he can't get parts) that if it's got picture, it's got to have sound.  He also said that I've got to find the right rf connector for the tv I'm using.  I've hooked up an NES and an Intellivision to the same tv with coax and all works great.  Even tried running the Odyssey through the intellivision switch.  Still no sound.

I'm somewhat decent with getting into things without going too far as to get myself into trouble.  I'll open the console and look for anything obviously wrong on the board or with connections.

Thanks again

I agree with Rene, it might could be the RF converter inside the machine. Sounds like it's time for you to disconnect that and go AV. Mine gives me an okay picture and sound but the RF inside causes a bit of static on both.

I believe the mod includes two RCA jacks and four small pieces of wire. When I get time to do mine I will be reporting back (I have seen terrific results from others).
