I had a text adventure which I think was called West that I played for hours and hours and hours. Can't find anything about it on the web now, might have to have a look later and see if I still have it.

Ok, don't know this one. Maybe it was only available in the UK? Most cassette games are from the UK, because they were really popular there.

Late to the party..

The C64 was my main computer system when I was a teenager.

I enjoyed it more for BBSing and programming than games, but there were a few games I really loved..

  • Elite: A whole universe, waiting to be explored, and the best 1st person perspective game for me up until that point.
  • Boulder Dash: Incredible game.. I think this game's place in history is not fully recognized.
  • M.U.L.E.: I didn't play this game until the late 90s, and it is not a C64 original, but it has to be one of the best games for the platform.
  • Pirates: I regularly skipped school to play this one.
  • Roadwar 2000: Possibly the best game ever written in C64 BASIC? It kept crashing on me, though, before I could finish it.
  • Neuromancer: Not a game I think I'd ever want to play again, but playing it all the way through was an experience I'll never forget.
  • Supremacy: I don't remember much about the game, except that it was a really fun strategy game (something I don't remember too many of on the C64), and the graphics and animation at the end were much better than I recall in any other C64 game.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something that I'll kick myself over later.. But these are the titles that come to mind right now.

Boulder Dash is great.

What I really love about the C64 is that, due to the whole hack & copy scene the number of available games was enormous. Lots of people were able to experiment and the weirdest games were released (Dancing Monster is a nice example). I still cherish the C64 for this Smiley

Other games I really like in no particular order:

  • Bruce Lee
  • Raid over Bungelin Bay
  • Mission Impossible
  • H.E.R.O. (as I like it on all systems)
  • Rolands Ratrace
  • Space Taxi
  • Choplifter
  • The Way of the Exploding Fist
  • Creatures I
  • Mayhem in Monsterland
  • Lode Runner
  • Blue max
  • Forbidden Forest
  • Falcon Patrol
  • Mancopter
  • Super Pipeline
  • Joe Gunn
  • Thing on a Spring
  • and many others which I am forgetting at the moment Smiley

I've heard good things about Mayhem in Monsterland elsewhere, but haven't tried it.. sounds like a game I should play..

I mostly remember Roland's Rat Race for the great music, but I don't recall the gameplay..
