I still need to look into this, or perhaps it would be better for me to pay one of you guys to do the dirty work seeing how I have no experience in this!

For the Video mod of the Ody2, is it better to use a 2N4401 instead of a BC547B ?

For the Video mod of the Ody2, is it better to use a 2N4401 instead of a BC547B ?

I doubt that you can see visible differences, it is just used as an emitter follower so any transistor which can handle more than 10 MHz will do.

The BC547 is usable up to 100 MHz and can handle 100 mA collector-emitter current.
The 2N4401 is a 'switching' transistor (can handle fast on/off transitions) but in the emitter follower circuit it is always in an 'in between' state so that gives no advantage over the BC547.

There is no amplification in an emitter follower circuit, it just 'buffers' (transforms from a relative high impendance input to a low impendance output) The 2N4401 can handle more current and would be able to drive a low impendance load a bit better.

Just try both in a test setup and check if you can see differences on screen  Smiley
