Screen start menu flashes but then goes the screen that looks like the system powered on without a cartridge in it...

Any suggestions for someone who has zero skills fixing consoles???

Good news is that this was a system given to me by a co-worker who had found in their parents attic/garage so no money lost.

I already opened it and did a little cleaning but I am to UN-educated in working on it to try much beyond that without some guidance...

Any advice is welcome and thanks in advance!

Yes, that's usually the first thing to check.

Aside from the credit card and t-shirt with alcohol method, what do you guys use to get stuff out of the cartridge slots if debris is stuck in there?

Try to keep it on for few minutes (with a game plugged). Many times it use to work.

WD40, a soft tooth brush and compressed air...
