How can I figure out which of the small caps is broken?

That would be highly unlikely. If it had a short-cicuit the voltage across it would be 0V (which it isn't), if an internal connection would be broken it would not cause a permanent 'up' signal.
I've fixed several G7000/G7400 consoles with a broken 74LS365, so that's probaly the case with your console too.

Ok, thanks for the info Smiley Is there any way to determine which one of the 74LS365:s is broken?

Obviously the one that is connected to the not correctly working joystick connector.

Yes, I know Cheesy The problem is, the console thinks the other joy (which one?) is always up although there are no controllers attached. Which one of the ports is the "default" for player 1/one player games? Asking because that's the problematic one. For example in Freedom fighters the ship is always
as high as it can get in the screen.

Already dismantled the console and the av-mod, so hooking up a 2-player game for testing is a bit complicated Smiley

Sorry guys  Embarrassed

Take a cartridge with a two player game. Connect only one joystick to the console. With the joystick check if the player responds correctly. If it does, the 74LS365 that is connected to the other port is defective. If it does not respond correctly, plug the joystick into the other port and check if the player responds correctly. With a multimeter you can determine which 74LS365 is connected to which joystick port.

It took a while to get the spares, but after I changed the other 74LS365 (by the looks of the soldering it might have been changed already once...), the console works like a charm. My soldering was as bad as it gets, but it did the job. I'm happy as a pig is s*it  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

I have the same problem with my G7400. It's fully operational except for joystich 2, which keeps moving down, even with the controllers disconnected. Opened the device, but my electronical knowledge is like 0, so I closed the lit quickly. Does someone have an instruction movie of replace (and measure) the right 74LS365N for this matter. Or does anyone know someone in the Netherlands who can restore a G7400/00?
