Hi folks,

I am a full time vintage hardware developer, and I make a cartridge called BackBit Pro. It supports 16 vintage systems and counting (with individual adapters), and the very latest system I've added support for is the Odyssey2.

You can see a video of other systems the cartridge supports here just to get a feel for how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V4XmkSOPcM

The cartridge is available for backorder on my website (http://backbit.io). Parts, which were ordered back in October 2021 are supposed to arrive in late July.

Let me know if you have any questions about it. Thanks to my customer Steve who donated the machine.

Impressive gear on your website, thanks for sharing.

I know that working with "The Voice" module is a challenge for flash/multi-carts.  Does the BackBit Pro work with The Voice?

The Odyssey2/Videopac isn't currently selectable as an option of your website.

I'd added the option to pre-order the adapter on the website.

I don't have a "The Voice" module, so I can't currently test. I'll have to make a change to the browser to handle requests differently. All signals pass through the adapter, so there should be an opportunity to make it work.

Now that I have a Voice module, I've added support for the BackBit menu while the voice module is connected. But there does unfortunately seem to be a signal problem with activating voices from the BackBit cartridge. I was able to get a few phrases working, like "MONSTER" and "UFO", but not any others, so that would likely indicate that some address bits are not settling in time.

I've looked into various approaches to fixing this, like shortening the ALD pulse or adding a buffer, but nothing seemed to help (at least not with the messy connections I soldered in). I might try and swapping out the 612261 chips on my Odyssey2 board with some 74XX175 chips to see if that helps.

As the SP0256 takes commands from address bits and not data bits, I don't think it's an issue with LVCMOS signals coming from the cartridge. Rather, it seems to be the driving capability of those address latch chips.

If I remember correctly, I think one of the higher address lines is not connected in the voice module. I don't think 12k carts work when using the Voice. It also uses the T0 line to check when the SP0256 is ready.
No idea if either of these are relevant to your issue.

While the latch chips are a weakness (had to replace mine with 74S after adding sockets), that was not the issue. The issue was that pin 2 on the cartridge must not be connected to ground. It's been solved, and The Voice works perfectly with BackBit now!
