Very nice! I think you could make a very good version of RR on the Videopac system.

I'll soon post the first screen shot of my very first self-programmed Videopac game too.

The excitement of a game. The mind of a computer.

Would you mind posting a screen shot of River Raid?  I'm still having emulator issues and I haven't had time (or I have been too lazy  Embarrassed )to figure out whats wrong.

River Raid is a fun game.  I've played it on an Atari flashback2 but I don't own the actual game.
Thanks!

It's too early to post a screen shot.

But as a first hint: Think of an Activision game, then think of the world's biggest sports event this year, then combine ....... ;-)

That's very interesting. Mind sharing the details of how you plan to achieve the scrolling effects?

I always wanted to create a version of this game for the Odyssey, but then I decided I should rather create something simpler before attempting this. I remember I considered a few options for the scrolling:

a) Super Cobra-like scrolling (bleh, boring);
b) Using precalculated combinations of chars/quads and the grid in block mode + P17 luminescence;
c) Using background color changes;
c) Using slashes and backslashes to define an (unfilled) terrain, like in that Jopac game (Exocet, Exojet or something like that, the name escapes me now).

Approach a) is really boring. I really don't like Super Cobra at all.

Approach b) is challanging, specially because the chars can't overlap, so I'd have to perform extensive testing before diving into it. Besides, I'd probably need to change the game into an horizontal scroller for this to work (saving some chars).

Approach c) probably wouldn't work well because of the way timing works in the Odyssey. Anyways, i wouldn't mind a "fuzzy" terrain, perhaps it would even look cool. But in order to perform those experiments, I'll have to get myself a real console and a RAMcart.

Approach d) seems to be viable. Of course, it won't look exactly like the original game.

It could also be that you decided not to include those slopes in the terrain at all.

Hi Fernando,

The idea is to use the green as light color and some squares to gave us the scrolling felling. Somthing like the fuel couter in the euro version of VPac 58. Here?s a screen of project (mock up for while):
