I was thinking how cool it would be to add something like a
basic computer system to the VP/O2.

My fantasy:

An MMU to handle 64k ROM and 64 K RAM....keep it somewhat simple.

Built in Tiny BASIC(perfect for a CPU like the 8048)

New video chip that can emulate the VP+ graphics but
also allow for a fast video buffer and a few more sprites.

Additional sound chip from perhaps the AY series.

104 enhanced keyboard, Mouse, USB (another 8048 perhaps? Tongue )

External joystick ports

VGA connector for monitors.

The table result ROM of course. Tongue

IDE port for upto 4 drives.

I say it would rock! You know you 'd all love to play with one
and run ALL VP+/VP/O2 games on it! Cheesy

Sounds like you're building a new console rather than an add-on?

You know that there already is a Basic module for the Videopac+ G7400 ?

Well it would be added on to your exsiting O2/VP.

Then again, a new, upgraded O2 could be cool.

That does me no good. I do not have a VP+.
Does it work with the old VP/O2? Any links
to info on it?

hm ... somehow my PC has better specs than that and can play the games through emulation - and is also no O2/VP ... I think I miss the point of this thing ? isn't the great thing about programming for retro systems to push a system to the limit ? without making a new system out of it ?

No, it only uses the Plus-graphics video chip, so it won't work on an Odyssey2 or G7000.

Any links to info on it?

What do you want to know?
It has a Z80, 16k ROM, 16k RAM, connectors for a tape-recorder.
I have schematics and ROM dumps of it.

I'd love to see them if you would. Smiley
Perhaps a similar unit for the Non+ O2VP could be possible.

The Plus-graphics videochip is capable of displaying 40x24 characters, with a non+ console the maximum I've been able to achieve is 17x8 characters.

Adding a nice V9938 video chip would be rather sweet. Use a z80
just like you have and make the O2 MSX compatible! SHHHWWWEET!
Tongue

But hey even the 17x8 would be better than the computer intro cart.
