Wow that signal looks really clear.  My Odyssey 2 consoles with the RF signal looks pretty bad on my LCD 19'.

Hi all,

I'm Paulo, a Portuguese user new to the forum, installed my g7000 in my living room a few days ago, it has been stored since my childhood.
Dug out my old Sony trinitron crt and
recently bought from René his multicart, so everything is on track.
Next step is having the g7000 output rgb as the rf signal is very low on quality.

Can anyone help me with this?
I think I can do the final soldering to the mainboard thing but more experienced and knowledgeable hands are required to put the mod circuit together.
Is there anyone willing to do this for me, at a cost of course?

I am actually just getting to learn electronics myself but do have several years of (pcb) soldering experience.
Mainly I've just done other people's circuits/examples and am currently (finally) reading up on electronic basics and interested in learning how to use programs such as eagle so this seemed a nice project to do for my Videopac.

I think I am following this thread quite well, but get stuck when running down the list of components I need to buy, especially the resistors..

My main question is, what W value for each? If I look at a few examples on google I see several examples, all different designs and a mixture of what seems to be 0,25W and 0,6W - so rather being safe then sorry I thought I would ask before making a purchase of the parts.

Next, to get the 12v line for scart (as I'm really worried some of my old TV's might need it), I tried reading up on how to achieve that and several googles later, I found this part:

Scart resistors?

Cable -> I already have a lot of Tasker cable here to choose from of other projects, but I'll be sure to make a final list of what I used to other's can perhaps see what I used.

If I read correctly other websites.. this mod requires a straight forward pin to pin scart connection, no other resistors are required within the scart cable ?

And last question (sorry for asking so many) .. Connectors ?

I noticed in one of your posts elsewhere also the mention of correct DIN-8 plugs and connectors..

For C64 I would typically use horseshoe-shaped DIN8 connectors (MAS 80S and MAB 8S) which I realise would work, but would not be normal for Videopac that uses the round connector. So I assumed that (MAS 80SN and MAB 8SN) would be correct.

However then noticed a page where you mentioned a very specific board connector for the G7400; MAB-8-SH from Hirschmann. so I decided to have a look at that, since I also have two G7400 (one of mine, and one of a friend) which could do with a RGB upgrade (info's taken from your other posts)

As Reichelt does not have the MAB-8-SH I decide to go to Hirschmann's website and look at who sells their plugs, and then I discovered there are two type of MAB-8-SH.

MAB 8 SH - product number 931 399-500

Will both versions work for the Videopac, or is it wiser to go for the -200 or -500 version?

And second questions related to the DIN connector.. I am now puzzled, thinking there were only 2 types or DIN-8 plug (round of horseshoe) I actually saw a thread elsewhere mentioning a third type of connector.

Which makes me wonder, if I go with the MAB 8 SH, will regular round-shaped 8-pin din plug work?
For example, MAB 8SN - DIN socket, 8-pin, circular

If that is a yes, then for the G7000 I am guessing (MAS 80SN - DIN connector, 8-pin, circular) would be the best choice so that the cables for the G74000 will match as well.
But if it is no, then I am puzzled.

just thought of something.. if I send 5v to pin 8, if will sync but just jump to 16:9 format right?
in that case any tv remote should be able to switch from 16:9 to 4:3 format, so no need to provide 12v.

The signal on pin 8 shouldn't be necessary anyway, you would just have to switch your TV to external input manually (with the remote control).

IC 652 = 7407 (do not use 74LS07), but you'll also need a 74LS04.

For the DIN connector it doesn't really matter which version you use (round or horse-shoe), as long as you use a matching DIN plug (obviously). There are no resistors in the SCART plug or cable. For a G7000 you don't have to use a DIN connector (it may be something else), but if you also want to use it for a G7400 then DIN would be easier (as you can use the same cable). For a DIN connector for a G7400 you might have to check the solder pins: some pins are spaced differently for some types. (Might be better to order both and see which fits best.)

Yes.. I realise it is not really needed.. but I want to give my cousins a G7000 as a present.. He is still young and has not been spoiled by the latest playstation of xbox, so it will be great to give them the experience of a Videopac that me and my sister had as kids :)

Point is.. I expect the phonecall from my sister saying the videopac is broken just because she doesn't know how to use a TV correctly.. so even if it would jump by default to 16:9, at least there's a higher chance it will be used and enjoyed.

OK.. and thanks for looking over the list.. darn those DIN connectors though..
I did realise I could use any socket connector for the G7000, as long as I map them correctly with a matching plug, and I did even considder removing the RF cable and using that slot directly into the box with a scart on the other end.. but since two other friends asked me to do this mod, and I have a 7400 aswell I will try to match the plugs so atleast I can do the same scart plug.

Anyhow.. the DIN connectors.. urgl.. It frustrated me so much that thanks to another website I have discovered a 3rd DIN 8 pins connector that I did not know existed, that I have now actually spent some hours on the Belden website trying to make a compatibility matrix for all their plugs/sockets with 8 pins.

I have listed all their DIN 8 connectors (without locking screw) so straight plugs, angled plugs, straight sockets and panel mounted sockets (flange, pcb-back, pcb-angled) with part numbers, links to belden website, connection type, etc.etc.etc. in excel to get a clear overview.. the only fuss I still have is over the DIN 41524 which they specify as pin/socket 1-5, which still doesn't give clarity which of their plugs/sockets are compatible for pin/socket 6,7 and 8..

So.. I just have to add the plug photo's aswell, and then I will mail the result to Belden and ask them nicely if they can confirm to get 100% certainty.

Just to be sure I will also ask them seperately if the connections on the "MAB 8 SH" types (931 399-500 and 931 399-200) are identical, which should atleast confirm it's just a material difference only since both are specified with the same "DIN 41 524 (sockets 1-5)" -> who knows.. there might be a difference in sockets 6-8..

Not really how I had hoped to spend my evening today.. BUT.. it's been furstrating me for such a long time for other machines aswell each time checking "what did I order the last time.. hmm, was it for Atari or commodore or.. oh shit.. where are those schematics again :)" that making this compatibility matrix was somehow putting a smile on my face aswell :)
