It took me quite some while to get the CPU box open though....

I still haven't found an easy way to open the Chess module either.

gertk

I guess Philips had a special tool for it..

Once disassembled I found you can open it with a rather broad flatbed screwdriver put in from the back and then carefully twisting it until both interlocks release. If you put some pulling force on the front you can hear them slide away with a click.
But as always: stop a quarter turn before breaking point....

It's not made by Magnavox. There one in this auction (the large black plastic thing at the left side.)

Rafael

I used the Google translator for the text above:

It's May, the month of the Odyssey launch here in Brazil. 25 years ago was a dream start. One night (it was between two and three in the morning) in January or February 1986, unfortunately you need not know the exact day of this event, my father entered the room with that huge box. An unforgettable night. Inside the box, the dream Odyssey, manual and cartridge "Formula 1, Interlagos and Cryptologic." The cartridge would start a long search. Also there was the magazine Odyssey Adventure number 7, "on the cover releases this month:" The Secret of the Pharaoh "and" The Cat and Mouse ", I could never imagine that those are the two biggest nightmares for collectors (I will not Mission Impossible mention, as its name says it all). And so it began. Whenever he could buy new games, until one day the games disappeared from the shops and the dream ended. I had managed 35 rounds. Then came the Internet rekindling the old dream, she also found two sets of whom had never heard of: "Bombing Submarine / Shooting Target" and "telegraph" respectively the 3rd and 4th cartridges more difficult to achieve by completing the that I eventually named "The Big Four." And earlier, the collection grew, then you discover that the problem of the whole Brazilian collector begins after 50 and if you are persistent enough, will reach 54 cartridges and perhaps discover the truth about the cartridges numbered AV 946X. In 11 or twelve years visiting the Free Market every 10 minutes just saw them show up every 4 or 5 times (The Big Four). Lately, I realized that this obsession was being harmful to me, honestly I was tired of all this. I could not watch TV looking for items on eBay. Had headaches, could not sleep if there was a special item for auction. Was frustrated that he paid for something and not received, if any item that was following disappeared before the end of the auction. In fact, I know many people who give up their collections because of the rarity and high prices of these items. Last night, as a child and was so excited about 25 years ago, I even dream about the guys from CSI, dressed as postman bringing my order. Today, 5 / 5 (5 x 5 = 25 years of waiting), not as expected (considering I did not get some manuals). My "The Cat and the Mouse" has arrived! I think I want to take a break in all this ... but this sounds like some kind of a curse ...

I?ll post pics and tell about you about the few difereces.

Rafael

First pic, is the cart itself. It came with it?s index and original box with 101 as serial number, a very low number compared to the most common games I have (games like Timelord, Turtles, Munchkin etc are easily find with serial numbers upper than 50.000). It don?t have the manual, but I was already made a cover ot it some time ago. The second pic I noticed is possible to choose diferent skills for each player, I?ll have more time to test it on saturday. The pic 3 shows another diference: the word "Name". Pic 4 and 5: Unlike the others roms, the name and player are not showed at the same time and the score is centered. At least, the non human players are automatically named "Odyssey"

@gertk - nice, I'm tempted by the VG5000 myself since it has so many similarities to the videopac with the games.

@ Rafael - I like the story  :D

I have 46 Brazilian videopacs, and I am waiting for 2 in the post. Now you tell me the worst is to come after 50  :o

And O Gato e o Rato! is still on my want list...
