Just got it the N60 and Minitel too.. The N60 has some problems, the Minitel is for spare parts... Maybe I can turn the Minitel into a Videopac Plus with an LCD screen...
That would be a cool project. Last thing i bought where a set of capacitors to fix a broken cd-i 470. But cheap bastard as i am, noticed an other advert for caps a lot cheaper and bought those on ebay. Guess what, they where wrong. I needed Bi-pol. caps and the one i bought weren't. So just ordered the right ones on ebay, and hopefully i can get it back to work again.

For electrolytic caps I trust only Panasonic nowadays. But... They are expensive.. Still for switchmode power supplies they are absolutely the best. I tried all kinds of 'low ESR' alternatives but they fail often again within a year.
Also often overlooked are the caps in the primary circuit of power supplies, they seem OK since they run at mains frequency only but I experienced many times capacity has declined to such a degree that the controller chip has to work really hard to keep the output voltages within range but creating such odd spikes/waveforms resulting in failure of the secondary caps in short time again..

I wanted to use the same spec and type for the cd-i, because it's for the analog audio section. The old ones where from Nichicon so i order new ones from Nichicon. The first ones i bought where also from Nichicon 100uF 16v but they weren't bi-polarized. Now i bought Nichicon 100uF 16v bi-polarized caps. The only other caps i could find around here where caps with feet on both ends, but the ones i needed had feets on one side only.

Did you have pic of these Nichicon 100uF 16v bi-polarized caps with feets on one side only?

Pictures of my Siera 15 are here: http://www.videopac.com/games/15.htmlI do not think Siera did a card boxed version, I've never seen one. The sticker on the cartridge is correct, except that '5' does look strange, don't know why that would have happened.

The last thing I bought was Pachinko! Had a heckuva time getting the sticker off, but in the end, it worked, so it was good enough. Plus, I got the sticker completely off with Goo Gone.

Alas the C7010 does not play chess... The board inside the box is severely damaged by the electrolyte leaking from all (!) the 150 uF caps... Not sure if I can fix that... Multiple tracks have been 'eaten' and even the IC sockets are deteriorated. I removed one to see what was underneath and it is no pretty sight.. Well, ok, what do you expect for 10 Euros (excl. shipping)

Looks pretty awful. Maybe it has been lying in the sun too long.

Leaking capacitors are quite common nowadays, but also quite common for these low voltage (relatively) high capacity types like these. I recently tried to repair a vintage Sony shortwave pocket receiver but the leaking SMD capacitors had completely destroyed the tracks and created some short circuits which caused the MF transformers to literally burn through even though the powersupply had only limited current capacity. It was really beyond repair. For the C7010 CPU board I tried cleaning the board today with special PCB cleaner and a glassfiber pencil and the result surprised me somewhat, only a few tracks are really broken, the others came out with quite some copper left so I will try and remove the other sockets, re-apply solder to the tracks, maybe use some fine copper wire to repair them and replace the sockets with some nice new ones. Fingers crossed..

It lives!
4 traces were broken, including the main power line (+5 Volt), it is not the most prettiest repair but it works. Caps replaced, sockets replaced.
A thing I just noticed is that this C7010 has the large 28 pin EPROM and my other C7010 has the smaller 24 pin ROM. Hmm, might be useful to compare the contents...
