Added a ZXpand compatible joystick function to the NXP81 and it works great with Down and Stairrunner !
Nice game! Wish i could play it on my videopac!  ;)

Hehe...  :)  Maybe an idea for an 'all plus mode' game ?

Come to think of it: Down might be possible as you can scroll the plus screen!

Down! for the ZX81 got reviewed in the January 2013 issue of Retro Gamer Magazine and score a whopping 82% !!!! (just a whee bit short of this month's Retro Sizzler award).

A version for the videopac is in the works, planned for Q3-2013 release.

Nice work!

BTW I have added ZX80 emulation to the mbed NXP81 (and I scored a real ZX80 on marktplaats!)
There are some so-called 'flicker free' games for the ZX80, maybe you can port the ZX81 games to the ZX80 too.

No ZX80 porting for me, it would take too much fiddling getting the exact timing each vblank.

Besides, there are about 3 active zx80 users worldwide (not that commodore PET is any better, but at least it was easier for me to work on after my VIC20 stint).

Next ZX81 will be "Shifted" , a nice/unique puzzlegame concept that is very addicting (and one of the titles i will release for android/etc. later this year).

PS> Congrats on the ZX80 score btw.

Available in Apeldoorn ?

BTW do you still need a Composite video cable for the Videopac G7400 ?
If so I can bring one.

Its one of 3 games in development for 2013 for the ZX81.
The first one available is Shifted (out in apeldoorn). A great fun and addictive game but that isnt as cool a screenshot as this one.

The third one is a boxing game, also with nice graphics (there is a bunch of large animated characters in there, so it will be a big squeeze getting it into the available space).

It looks good, I definitely want it both on tape and binary  :)
Does it have ZXpand/ZonX sound support ?

I have been playing with a  AY-3-8910 emulator addon (ported from a piece of code for the Parallax Propellor!) on my NXP81 and it already gives out some sounds (both with a demo and Mayhem/Avalanche/Stairrunner/Down).
Dennis (DDW) tested your ZX81 games with a real ZONX and it gave no sound.. Seems there was an IO address mixup on the real ZonX  (0x0F/0x1F and 0x0C/0x1C) It has something to do with A4 not properly connected on some ZonX boxes. I had to adjust the emulator to also react on both variations.

If all is well we will attend Apeldoorn with a bunch from Steenwijk  :)

P.S. do you take the PET game(s) also to Apeldoorn ? (just for fun I tested a 6502 emulator on the mbed and used the PET as example code to see how it would run and the bootup screens already showed up so..)

What game is this? Canabalt?
Indeed it is a runner-type game which combines the coin-collecting of temple-runner with the on ZX81 unavoidable visual-style of canabalt.

Probably not, most of the zx81 stuff for 2013 is questionable if it will make over on things like pet/vic20 as well given they are a bit more complex / heavy on resources.
