User manual ?Martian Threat?

A dish shaped spaceship from the planet Mars is attacking the Earth, and is planning to destroy it.
A laser system, newly developed on Earth, should be powerful enough to bring the Martians onto other thoughts. But this new defence system isn?t quite ready.
Our task is it to stop the Martians as long as possible, with our old laser system on board our spaceship.
Because their spaceship can?t be attacked from the outside, we have to attack them from the middle using our laser system, while avoiding the ?energy bombs? from the Martians.
If our ship is hit by to many bombs, they succeed in destroying our ship, so be careful!
The more Martians we destroy, the more powerful the bombs they drop will become.

The laser cannons aboard our spaceship can only fire in diagonal directions using the joystick to point into a direction and pushing the fire button.
By holding the joystick long enough (to conquer the slowness of the ship) up, down to the left or right, our ship will move into that direction.

Game levels:
0   No slowness/slowness
1 ? 4   No slowness
5 ? 9   Slowness

Score:
Slow bombs      -   5 points
Medium fast bombs   -   10 points
Fast bombs      -   20 points

Hitting the Martian will result for the first 4 hits into 3 points each.
Destroying the Martian will be awarded with 23 points.

Game ends:
-   When u hit the dish shaped space ship.
-   When your spaceship is hit by to many energy bombs.

Over a 1,000 points, it might be possible to roll the score for this one.

hm ... are you using an old version of O2em ? or have I reintroduced the error of the wrong recognition of tokens ??  (Score should be score and not sc r ...)

roadrunner: its a c7420 game written by gertk - you find the source here on the forum and you can load it in the new version of O2em :-)

I seen the thread with the source. I can't figure that out.
It's all greek to me. :(

manopac

don't worry, its easy - copy the source in a text file and save it e.g. as "snake.bas" in the folder "basic" in the new o2em, then run o2em with the c7420 option (as described in my thread about the new o2em), and load "snake.bas" instead of "heli.bas", type RUN and play :-)

I can't figure out how to copy and save the source in that text file. :(

manopac

here you go - don't forget to press "Num-Lock" if the keyboard-emulated joysticks don't work ! (it switches between keyboard and joystick)

Thanks for your help!  :) ;)

I got it to load up.
Just can't get the game to start. Have to press the fire button.
Joystick's not working.
I need to find out what the Num-lock key is.  :(

What button saves a screenshot?

edit, found the Num-lock key, still can't get it to start.

in my version after pressing Num-Lock I use "Space" as a firebutton and "A-D-S-W" for the 4 directions (can be changed, but thats the default setting for stick one)

so snake starts when I press space :-)

as for the screenshot: I just tried this feature for the first time ever :-) it works like this (as written in doc/o2em.txt)

-scshot=file  Set the screen shot file name or template. The screen shot
will be saved when you press the F8 key in the emulator.
The extension of the file you give will set the file type.
supported file types are bmp, pcx and tga. You can also give
a template to save several files, using the @ character.
Using an option like -scshot=dump@.bmp will save files with
names like dump00.bmp, dump01.bmp, etc. The pictures will
              have a resolution of (320x240)*wsize.

so basically start o2em with the option -scshot=dump@.bmp and every time you press F8 it will save a screenshot (which actually takes almost forever ... don't give up waiting :-) )

I will rework this for my next release - make it faster and if you don't give the scshot option let you enter a filename for the screenshot ... oh well .. my to-do list for the next release gets longer and longer ;-)

I still can't get it to start.
I even unplugged the USB controller.
My Num Lock key lights up if that means anything.
I tried Popeye, i was able to move him with the arrow keys and punch with key L

manopac

ok ... so you have one USB controller plugged in ?

o2em is configured currently to use auto-detection of joysticks, so if one joystick is plugged in, it should use the joystick for Joystick 1 and keyset 1 for Joystick 2 (unplugging the joystick while O2EM is running wouldn't change anything, cause the autodetection runs when o2em starts - try starting o2em WITHOUT the joystick plugged in and you can use Space/A-D-W-S)

but if you use a joystick, you don't even have to press num-lock to activate the joysticks, just press the fire button - if it does not work, just press F7 (swaps joystick 1 and 2) and try again - if your joystick works in other games, then it should definitly work in C7420 emulation, too ...
