So for a while now I've been wanting to make a 4k game just to see if I could. And I have an idea for one. An "Adventure"-like quest. "Adventure" for the Atari 2600/VCS. So this is the beginning. Just moving the letter Q around the screen. The letter Q is the hero of the story. All was peaceful in Q-Land until the Ps from neighboring P-Land started coming in. Your job as the letter Q is to rid the invading letters and bring peace once again to Q-Land. I'm imagining something like Adventure (by the way, that game is 4k.) I'll add more screens to this. One might have a letter P to avoid, or a tree, or some other thing. Your job is to get the mayonnaise. Letter Ps hate mayonnaise and run away at the very sight of it. The mayonnaise is the Triforce equivalent. (although I've never played a Zelda game before.) The Odyssey 2 is sorely lacking in games where you roam around a world and do and discover stuff. This took a few hours to discover how to move a letter around the screen. I've moved sprites up and down, but never characters. I want to name the game Q.

I made it so there's a tree if you go to the screen to your right. Woo. Although apparently nobody downloaded the first version. Oh well.

I had to get rid of diagonal movement because the tree was acting stupidly and not doing what I wanted it to do. So you can go behind the tree, but not in front of it or to the sides of it (it's a rather thick tree). This took at least 2 hours, until I discovered that disabling diagonal movement would help tremendously. Also, you can go up or down, but not reach more screens that way (there's now an up and down border).

Added a health meter. It decreases every time you hit a tree because, let's face it, running into a tree hurts.

Added the P chasing you I was talking about earlier. It took all night, about 4 or so hours, but I finally did it.

Changed a few minor things:
+ when you get down to the bottom end, the Q does not shake.
+ changed the left border, made it more to the left.
+ letter Q does not shake when hit by the P.

I'm only three screens in and already have used 883 bytes. Maybe I'll need to make this an 8k game!

Worked on this a little more even during an eyeache. I added a sword to get. You can kill the P with the sword. I changed the tree so the sword doesn't cut into it. I spent 4 hours on it just today from 9pm-12am.

More work done. I rearranged the code a little bit so it would be easier to put in trees. I've used 1,248 bytes so far. I think I fixed a bug about the sword and the tree. There are 5 screens so far. I've noticed I'm the only one posting in this thread. I'd love to hear your thoughts about the game.

Maybe not posting as the game is in its early stage. Looks promising, but for now, mainly moving the Q around, seeing a few trees, and one screen has a P chasing you (which can be killed if the sword is picked up). Nice start, but of course, needs 'more' to be able to say more than 'looks like it has possibilities'.
