Maybe one day...
Some VG5000 games could be adapted for our Videopac+
(with the C7420 ?) like this game:

I like to play these VG5000 games since they look like G7400 (including some Ody titles).  ;)

Ow they look cool!

Yes. I also love they. And Rafael has much more like these three. He is ready for Odyssey 4. :D

I also agree with Videopacbelgium about the VP+ only games. I am waiting for those kind of releases 8)

Some of these screenshoot I made many years ago. I made some kind of "Ody 4" games back in the days using a software called Game Maker, in fact I just coded a part of QFTR and Freedom Figthers (this one I lost by viruses)

I just forget to mention my thougths.
A module to make our Odyssey into a NEs or other console:NO
If we have a module to play some Ody classics with high res sprites, some arcade sounds and music: YES

but wouldn't this module essentially make a NES out of your Ody? because obviously those games would have to be programmed for the new platform - so why not just reprogram them for a more capable hardware in the first place? (like KC Munchkin for the Atari 7800:

I still don't see the point of upgrading old hardware to a point where it is no more compatible with the original system and new games would not work anymore on the old hardware ...
sex, lies, and videopac

Janzl

Again I agree with ManoPac.

Isn't it a better idea that, if you want to upgrade classic videopac games, to release those as VP+ only games? With hires backgrounds and hires sprites?

Great idea. But can Videopac+ computers generate HiRes sprites  ???

When I see the sprites from Videopac 59 Helicopter Rescue or Videopac 60 Transamerican Rally, they look in my opinion not like HiRes sprites.

I think the maximum resolution for the Videopac+ is 320 x 240 pixels

Tom Beck

And which resolution is called HiRes  ???

I think "Rafaels" sprites are with Videopac + not possible  ???

yes I think made a mistake. I thought the Norseman monsters were hires sprites but I think they are actually characters. RenĂ© help me out!  :D

Well, the plus backgrounds are completely build up from characters. The plus graphics from the G7400 are using the same chip as they used for teletext in color tv's
Characters are laid out on a grid. I don't know by heart how many pixels each character has something like 8x8 (I'm sure the technicians here are going to correct on that one ;) )

Characters cannot slide over a screen like a sprite can. They can only jump from one character position to another. The enemies in FlashPoint are a nice example as you can clearly see their jump-like movements.

Sprites are not dependant of a grid. Their minimal move is one pixel, so their movement is much much smoother than that of a character. The G7000 can only display 4 sprites at once, though there are tricks to get more on the screen.

Also, I think, due to the size of the enemies in Norseman, each enemy consists of multiple characters.

I think that this is a nice explanation, anyone correct me if I'm wrong  :D

Many thanks Janzl and congratulations. I understand what you wrote !   ;D  Wonderful explanation !

I wish to have more games, where the enemy (consists of mulitiple characters) move like the monsters in Norseman, because they look really amazing. Ok, they could only jump, but I think there are great games possible.

Also I love the scrolling background (in the desert/sea area) from Helicopter Rescue.

Actually my dream was to see a new generation of Odyssey games (very much an Ody4 than a module). Before the Internet, we did not know anything about one another generation Odyssey. With the internet I knew about Odyssey3 / G7400, but there was still a lot of information about the games, I thought they had hi-res sprites and arcade sounds and music, something close to the ColecoVision.

With some work you can make 'sprites' on the plus graphics system with user defined characters but you need to pre-calculate all permutations and carefully place them on the character grid.

What real sprites normally can do is leave the screen behind them undisturbed and they have separate foreground-, backgroundcolor and transparancy options. That is not (easily) possible with the plus graphics system of the Videopac+

I good example of a sprite is your mouse/cursor. It "floats" on top of everything without disturbing other graphics. The G7000 sprites are 8x8 and the pixels are about twice the size of G7400 characters.

Also, the G7400 characters are 8x10, I believe.
