Try to imagine the following situation. You are a ten year old boy and you buy the game. You have to find out what crimes the villains intend to commit, so you have the manual explaining that: revolver means murder by shot, the skull means poison murder. So you think, OK. Then the manual says that the eye represents drowning murder. I don't know if I'm being clear in my thoughts.

As I promised, I had to sleep and think about this. Well, I was sleeping, but I was not dreaming about Sherlock Holmes.  :-[

But today at my work, I do some brainstorming with my friend there. We look at the sign and thought, what for crime were possible in that time where Sherlock Holmes play.

Over the day, we had only 2 suggestions. Because I don´t know the english word for both, I use a translation programm and a picture to make it clear.

1)   To strangle somebody with a scarf
2)   To shove somebody alive in a water well

That are mine 2 suggestions for today.

Rafael, I've never been involved in the Sherlock Holmes discussion, I know there was a hidden group on the old board, don't know about this one, but one question.

What is actually original from 198X ?, just the cartridge?. There are many photos/pics on this thread, There's pictures of boxes, overlays, boards etc, just wondering if any of them are original.

From what I know, only the following two pictures are original from the eighties.
The unreleased box art and the not finished game board.

All others: the finished boxes, game board, overlays and figures you saw, are the project from Marc and from Brazil.

But maybe Rafael knows more...

Mark, I knew abot the secret group, I wasn´t part of it, however. At some point, René called me to work on it. Then sent me the game rom and we had a lot of discussions about the game, rules, possibilities etc. Written occurs there are no written rules for the game, there is something here, something there, we try to find information etc. The problem is that the game is extremely complex, so all we have to original is the box and board art (which we believe to be partial). In short, it's a pretty hard job, so far I've written almost 30 pages of the manual, created / researched illustrations. But in short, the whole process is quite time consuming and one thing depends on another. For example, I cannot continue the manual until I have the pieces / board defined, as they will also be illustrated in the manual, and of course depending on other people. The process went slowly and then came this talent that is Leonardo. Initially, feeling that the project was falling into limbo, I asked Leo if he could make a box for me, simply as a fan, I would like to have a replica of the box for my collection. But Leo has incredible willingness to do things so I thought we could rekindle the thing. At this time, we were updating the project and René was also part of it. When René decided to leave the scene, I asked him if there would be no problem continuing the project is and that's for now.

Guys, keep up the ideas. I'm writing it down (while working on another exciting project for our favorite console)

We see this way:

simbol 1 = a skull normally represents POISON (I think it´s universal?)
simbol 2 = looks like a knife so it´s represents murder by SHARP INSTRUMENT
simbol 3 = this is our dilemma
simbol 4 = a revolver, so it´s represente murder by shooting and.
"simbol 5" = TNT = murder by explosion.

Two suggestions have come to mind

symbol 1 = Skull - murder by Poison
symbol 2 = Knife - murder by sharp object
symbol 3 =  ??   - murder by blunt object  (rock for example)
symbol 4 = Gun - murder by shooting
symbol 5 = TNT = murder by explosion.

or

symbol 1 = Skull - murder by Poison
symbol 2 = Syringe  - murder by injection (the far left pixel could mean a drop on the end of the needle)
symbol 3 = Stab Wound - murder by sharp object
symbol 4 = Gun - murder by shooting
symbol 5 = TNT = murder by explosion.

You don't have to be mad, but it helps.

"When Magnavox pulled the plug on the Odyssey2 system, the game Sherlock Holmes was a finished product.
They had a copy of a finished EPROM and the finished rules, artwork, etc. and were days away from going into final production.
Ron Bradford and Steve Lehner spent many hours playing the final version and both said it was the best and most addictive game that they had produced to date."  :)

How I remeber we made researches about possible involved.
As a curiosity, the magazine Odyssey Adventure quotes Bob Cheezan as the game's programmer.
