I'm not sure, I think old computers could become vintage collectable just like old cars or old steam engines.

Many people still look back to the beginning of the industrial age due to the leap mankind made at that time, and I think that the period from 1975 to 1985 will be seen in the same way for computing in the future, and videopac is right in the middle.

As today, I don't think there will be much interest in single videopacs, but collections could have a future.

Todays generation have many many more people interested in computer gaming, which potentially gives a bigger scope for retro collecting in the future.

I'm not planning on being able to sell of my collection and retire from the proceeds.  I can see a future market for it but it will always take a back seat to the more popular systems.  The one long-term benefit the Odyssey 2 has in America is that fewer were produced compared to the Atari's and Nintendo's.  Right now the biggest trend in collectibles here in the USA seems to be the Colecovision and the original Nintendo.  Atari systems and games are still pretty cheap, with a few exceptions.  Intellivision has its own cult-like following but the systems and most games are still pretty cheap.  I have seen the Original Odyssey go up in price because it is finally getting the recognition it deserves in gaming history.

I would hope that the first generation of home computers gets it's due recognition amongst collectors some day but with the exception of the really rare computers they are still pretty cheap and its difficult to find one in working order.  Of course it was difficult to get them working back in the 80's as well  ;)

I love my O2 no matter what future generations think of it.         :)

Well i was Born in March 21,1971..  (49 yrs) and i was always far as i can remember loved electronics, maybe because of my Father .. my Father was a Chief draftsman of hybrid design for Teledyne Philbrick in Dedham, Massachusetts .. retired after 38 yrs.. i remember one of his close friends his kids had the Odyssey 2 .. loved it soon at i played it i remember playing Golf.. that Christmas i wanted one.. and yes santa Brought one to the House.. had to be 1978, i was hooked....

Years later.. i've managed to collect some great stuff and happy its back in my life.. just wish we got a chance to have the release of the Odyssey 3 .. i remember the "great Videogame crash of 1983" it was a big change to come ..  but looking back at it now, Change was needed to see what we have now..  the engineers would be happy to see how much we have kept the Odyssey 2 / Videopac alive today! ... it never dies!

let's move forward with a new year to come! 2021!

- this is for serious collectors, not a youth club!  ;) ;)

I just realized that the topic is from 2007 ... which means from all the options we chose back then - we are all at least in the next age bracket than where we were back then  :o

So, I answered the poll as if it came out this year and not 13 years ago. 51 this year, so 38 when the poll came out. I got my O2 in about 1981. Don't remember exactly but I do remember playing it at a friend's house and thought it was cool. So we got one. My sister got a 2600 the next year, but I preferred my O2. Didn't have a large collection then and my parents got rid of my original console when I went off to college. I remember playing Thunderball and Monkeyshines and Pick-Axe Pete.

Picked up a used one again in about 2009 and started collecting. I only have one more game to get (Power Lords) and I have the complete US collection. Plus, I have some Brazilian and home brews as well. And one Japanese cart I found. We just moved into a new house and all my stuff is still in boxes. Not sure how I'm going to set things up yet. But I do enjoy playing still.
