Chris!

A while back, I made a game for the Atari 2600 called "Uncle Hairy's Nosehair," a game about nosehair trimming, demon avoiding, and box collecting for points. I thought it would be fun to try to make the game for the Odyssey 2. So that is what I'm doing. I had to add an extra demon in the game, though, since I can't have the character color be the same color as the background. I tried and tried but to no avail. This extra demon not in the Atari 2600 game pulls the nosehair out. I need this in order to cover up the grid so it appears the hair is growing 1 pixel instead of 12 at a time. I made a little picture of the program in action. Some shortcuts (no pun intended) will have to be made in order to have this on the Odyssey 2 (such as fixed y positions for the scissors instead of freely moving them around), but I am going to try to program this.

I replaced the nosehair pulling demon with a piece of rockhard snot. It's so hard, you can't cut it. But you can still cut the nosehair. Today I put in a box to get. The next time I work on this, I will begin work on the demon. The box will be worth points, and will be the only way you can get points. I plan to make it so if you touch the demon, the hair will grow faster. The whole object of the game is not to let the nosehair reach the bottom of the screen. The demon will go after you, except when the box pops up, then he will go after that instead. Because if he gets it before you, the box will disappear and your score will go down. And you'd better get the box quickly, the score will decrease 1 point every second you don't get the box when it's on screen.

I've been hesitantly toying with putting a ROM on here. I would really appreciate the feedback, but I don't want pirates thinking this is a final game and then putting it on a multicart. So I won't be posting any more final ROMs on the internet any more. Anyway, here is a ROM of what I have so far. Move the scissors with the joystick. Vertical movement is like that in Tunnels of Terror, while you can move left and right freely. The Action button cuts the nosehair when you're touching it. Each cut of the nosehair makes it move faster, so it'd wise not to do it a lot. Boxes are worth ten points, but you lose a point for each second it's not touched.

If all goes well, the next step is to add in the nosehair demon. Thoughts?

This type of garbage that infiltrates groups to benefit from the work of others really spoils the fun.
About the game, being honest, it still doesn't seem to work. Let's see what comes next.
But conceptually it reminds me of Fishing Derby. You've already considered this idea?
It would be much less disgusting LOL

Chris!

OK, I'll quit working on it then.

Remember it's just a personal opinion.
I chose the Odyssey despite third-party suggestions that I buy an Atari

I think the critical part of Rafael's comment was toward pirates, not your game.  No need to quit over it.

When I run your game, I can successfully trim my hirsute uncle's nasal growths, but unfortunately, the game will crash about 1.5 seconds after the box appears--whether you touch the box or not.

As for the multicart pirates: is that still happening around here?
Does anyone read these signatures?  Let me know in your signature.

Exactly, about piracy. Chris is a good person.

Chris!

Decided to start all over again from scratch. Right now the scissors only move up and down, but it's smooth now instead of jagged moves, so that involved hours of testing and retesting to make sure my cutting code works well. I played with this for 5 minutes, cutting at various points, with no issues. Can you find any?
Note that the game does not start over again once the hair reaches the bottom. It's way past my bed time and I should be asleep now.

Chris!

I've spent most of my time lately working on this. I think I have everything done correctly that I wanted to have settings-wise. Now I need some feedback. If you're interested in testing the game, let me know and I'll give it to you via PM.
