Odyssey 2 Variations

These are the listed Odyssey 2 system variations according to Ozyr:
Console, Odyssey2 (removable silver controllers, non-standard TV plug, flat logo) - Magnavox/NAP
Console, Odyssey2 (hard wired black controllers - non-standard TV plug, flat logo) - Magnavox/NAP
Console, Odyssey2 (hard wired black controllers, standard TV plug, flat logo) - Magnavox/NAP
Console, Odyssey2 (hard wired black controllers, standard TV plug, raised logo) - Magnavox/NAP
Console, Odyssey2 (Odyssey3 controllers) - NAP

Ozyr, on the other forum you stated there may be as many as 8 variations (if my memory is correct).  What other "versions" are there?  I know the "Magnavox" name was dropped after a certain year (1981?) and the space it took up on the console was left empty (above the power switch).  Are you including the "renewed" versions.  Just for others info, Philips/Magnavox stamped the bottoms of returned Odyssey 2's with a "renewed" stamp (burned into the bottom, the box was also ink stamped).  This was typically done when the hardwired joysticks needed to be replaced and the item was still under warranty.  As a result some of us have a newer system with removable joysticks (mine are actually black like the hardwired version).

Has anyone actually seen an Odyssey 2 console with Odyssey 3 controllers?  I have read about it from several sources rumor but never seen photographic evidence.  ???

Thanks!

I'll dig through my notes - I don't have them handy - but there are 'Eight' versions of the O2, not including the Renewed ones.

(I really need to update my listing on my website...  :(

My Odyssey 2 has hardwired black controllers, with a flat logo, and no Magnavox name on it, I have seen others like it on ebay, its from 1981 so I believe its one of the newer variations.

-snip-

I've moved the list to the  VP/O2 Video Gameography child board. It make more sense to keep the list there.

-end of snip-  ;)

No Magnavox name on the box, console!? This would not be on the console, at least not the outside. It would be on the box, and especially the inside front cover of the manual, if you have that.

Oops, me bad - Magnavox is on the earlier console - by the power button!

Ozyr

If anyone here has an O2 with the box and manual, please post the model # from the back of the manual, along with the info in the back of the from cover in regards to if it is just Magnavox or that and NAP. Plus, if you would list what your console has:

-Removable/Attached joysticks
-color of joysticks
-NES compatible A/C (if you know)
-smooth or rough keyboard
-standard RCA or non-standard RF plug
-Odyssey2 log, flat, or raised

Okay, the GY / GT is on the sticker on the bottom of the consoles. That explains that part!

One verified for now (also clear up an 'unknown tv plug)!
BJ7600 GY02 (however, I don't know which manual goes with it - or the # for such manual)

P.S. I'm asking Janzl to move this to the VP/O2 Video Gameography area as well.

As noted in the other area (for now), renewed are not counted. I find it surprising that you got a hardwired system that got 'renewed' as a detachable system. Are you 100% sure on this, as this is the first time I've ever heard of that happening. Once they got rid of the detachable joysticks, they did not go back to them, which makes your story odd. Not that is no possible. They may have used up some older stock they had.

My Odyssey 2 has a rough "keyboard," hardwired black controllers, flat logo, and NO Magnavox logo or anything around the power button.  I have seen others like so on ebay.  It also has a standard RCA RF connector.

The model number on the back of the manual is IB3747-1 BC7600, and the number on the bottom on the console is BC7600GY02.  I do not have the box.

I remember I printed a neat list from the Odyssey 2 HOME page that had all of the model numbers and descriptions of the console variations, but I can't seem to find it right now.  Good luck trying to find anything on the O2 HOME page right now...its so full of dead links its pathetic.  Something that dead should be removed entirely.

Yes, according to the original owner.  You can even tell they hacked it because the plastic around the joystick inputs looks as if it was sawed.  I will try to confirm the numbers when I clean up my basement (it's burried under a pile of videogame stuff).

That is where I got my list here from - plus a few bits added myself. It is just presented in a different format, plus I have the manual codes - just for completeness.

Thanks for your info on your O2 unit!
With your info, the list appears to need an additional model, making it 11 variations now!? You model is very close to another one, except you have a flat logo. I think some of the unverified ones from the ol' O2 Homepage may be incorrect. Time will tell.

P.S. Do you have the 'year' from the front inside cover of the owners manual?

Your welcome!  I am glad you are collecting such information, its interesting to know all of the variations, and its cool to know mine may be a recently discovered 11th variation!  I remember seeing a couple on ebay a while back similar to mine, but they seem to be uncommon.

The year on the inside cover of my manual is 1980.

Another odd thing with my unit, is that the RF switch box isn't that tan/white color, its a dark gray/black color. (I have also seen ones like it on ebay, but not very often.)  The connectors on the RF switch box are missing from the wire, and the wire is cracked and a bit broken, but the gray/black shell pieces are in great condition along with the circuit board inside.

Ozyr

I've seen both the white and black colored RF boxes (or colors similar to them).

As for an 11th console, I find it interesting, but also confusing. It is odd that Magnavox/NAP would keep making minor changes to the console over the roughly 5 years the machine was on the market. Just truly odd - and hard to keep track of!

I'm hoping more people who have one system (or so) have the manual, model #'s to report here, so we can verify more of the variations.
;:)

Sweersa

That would be pretty nice.  I wonder how many there are.

Mr. Sweersa, I'm curious about your special O2 console.

I was digging through info from the O2 Homepage (stuff I have, but is no longer on the site at this time), that goes against your console!?

According to Williams, when he compiled his list, it went as follows in regards to the logo:

QuoteLogos - The Odyssey? logo on the console's upper left-hand corner may be flat
(stenciled directly on the console), or on a raised plastic rectangle.

The consoles with flat logos also have the word "Magnavox" printed above the power
button; the raised logo consoles do not.

I'm not doubting you 100%, but what you have goes against these findings of Williams a while back. I wonder, where did you get your O2!? Only reason I ask, is that at this point in time, it appears to be a one-of-a-kind.
I myself have an manual with the same numbers you have in yours, but I have no console that matches what you have. This is why I am questioning what you have!
I just want to clear this up, as it almost sounds like a model that may have been fixed at one point with parts from other consoles. So again, where did you get your O2? And, does it have a 'renewed' stamp on the bottom?

In other news, I've pinpointed my own BA7600 GY02 model, which goes against Williams original list - he has it show as a Standard RF Plug, I have two that have the old Non-standard plug. With my two, I would guess Williams list is incorrect (or we have another model on our hands)

I'm still amazed at how many bloody variation of the O2 Magnavox/NAP did!?   ;:)
