I agree with just about everything Ozry said. 

I am glad this forum went up so fast actually, it pretty much saved this community!  Could you imagine what would have happened if this site never went up and the old forum died out like it is now?  The Atarians would be having a field day with this!

By "fickle" he is saying we quickly left and didn't return, and had no loyalty to the time and effort and community he had established.

A "dummy" in this context is something you put in a babies mouth to stop it crying, so Richard is saying we were a bunch of crying moaning babies.

Could be. But two faces is better than none in my book. Sad thing is, it still all boils down to lack of communication.

After reading what he did, with paying people to rebuild his php data, I can't understand why he could not have posted a 'I'm working on it  - stay tuned' message, or anything to that point!

Ah well, it is the past now, keep moving forward...

I was also frustrated because the old forum went down so suddenly.
Because i didn't know where to go to i went to atariage. There someone posted this forum so i got here. I also liked this setup more then the old board but, i didn't have problems going back to it. But since there was more action here and we didn't know why it went down i stayed here.
Maybe Richard is mad because everybody went here, but as said we didn't know why it went down. Some people here even tryed to get the old forum back online by contacting the forum host but since it wasn't money and only richard could fix the problem knowbody knew what to do.
Maybe if he had read this posts here about his forums disappearence.
He would have read that a lot of people where concerned about him. Wishing that nothing serious had happend to him.
It would have been easy to just post a few lines here saying what happend and Janzl would have moved stuff posted on his site to richards site. Als well had people moved.
So the main problem is all coming down on communication.

He is thinking about keeping the forum online if there will be some activity on it.

I don't think I am going back.  I appreciate Richard putting lots of time and money into that forum, but I would prefer to be here for a number of reasons.

1.) I personally prefer the look and GUI of this forum

2.) Every issue on this board is rapidly resolved, as Janzl showed us recently when this forum was down for 3 hours or so.  He had it backed up and solved the issue fast and gave us a good rapid valid explanation.  Thanks Janzl.

3.) It seems most of the activity between members of the community are at this forum.

4.) Having two forums would be a hassle at times as Ozyr has pointed out before.

I know some people hate having two forums, some others don't mind, some might like it.

The question is: would anyone care if videopac.org would disappear completely?
If no-one cares, we'd better tell Richard.

No I don't want to see it disappear completely, there is a lot of time and effort and useful information there as well as the forum. I'm sure most forum activity will now happen here, certainly I've got used to the look and feel of this forum.

If the extra functionality associated with having a forum costs more money, then there could be a cost saving there, but I'd like to see videopac.org stay as I would any videopac site - including the forum for its current and historical value to the community.

Maybe videopac.org could be reborn in some other function, as a videopac social networking site maybe

Like a Videopac/Odyssey 2 Myspace?  Thats actually is a great idea!  All members here could have pictures of ourselves, maybe a little blog, and other collection pictures.
